Insulation contractor for lived-in Rochester homes

An unfinished room has spray foam insulation filling its wall cavities, with exposed roof trusses, windows, and sliding glass doors.

From new houses to the ones you live in

I spent my first years insulating new houses before the drywall went up, when every wall is open and nobody's moved in yet. In 2017 I started J&L Rochester Insulation Company to work on homes people already live in, which is a different job, because now there's furniture under the attic hatch and decades of somebody else's shortcuts above it. Knowing how a house goes together before it's covered up tells me where the heat really gets out of yours.

We're best known for attics. Most calls come from people tired of ice dams, a cold room over the garage or a heating bill that keeps climbing, and the fix usually starts with attic air sealing, closing the gaps where warm air escapes before any more insulation goes on. What I care about is that the problem actually gets fixed and not buried under a fresh layer, and that we leave your house like someone lives in it, because someone does. We're an insulation contractor based in Rochester, MN, and we also work in Byron, Stewartville, Kasson and other cities around it.

What you can count on from us

These habits hold on every job we take, from one drafty attic to anything else listed on our home page.

Problems found before anything gets covered

We look for water stains, mold, droppings and soaked old insulation before we start, because new insulation over a wet or dirty layer just hides the problem. If something up there needs dealing with first, we tell you at the estimate, not after it's sealed in and costing you.

Straight answers about what you don't need

Sometimes the insulation you have is fine and the real trouble is open gaps around the can lights, pipes and hatch. We'll say so, because your money should go to the work that changes how the house feels.

Licensed, insured and permits checked first

We're licensed and insured, and before work starts we check with the city or county office that covers your address. If our part of the job needs a permit, we take care of it, so you're not the one standing at the counter.

How a job goes, start to finish

Here's what happens after you reach out, and who you'll see along the way.

  1. Call or send us a note

Call (507) 512-1787 or use our contact page to tell us what's going on, whether it's ice dams, a drafty bedroom or a power bill you're tired of. We reply within one business day to set a time.

  2. I come out and write the estimate

I go up in the attic or down in the crawl space myself, check how many inches are already there and look at the hatch, the vents and anything damp. The estimate is free, done on site and comes with no pressure and no obligation.

  3. Seal the gaps, then insulate

Our install crew closes the leaks first, then lays insulation evenly out to the edges and keeps the eave vents clear so the attic can still breathe. I'm on the job to check the parts that get covered up, since nobody sees them again once the insulation is in.

  4. Prep, cleanup and a walk-through

We plan where the hose runs and what gets covered before we show up, because you're living in the house while we work. When we're done, we clean up and go over what we did with you. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.
